Professional Networking Organizations

and Networking Clubs . . .

If you’re looking for networking tips, you may want to consider joining a professional organization or club. Organizations and clubs give you the opportunity to meet other like-minded people that share with you similar interests, careers, backgrounds, or goals. Building relationships with these people can lead to many opportunities for you both personally and professionally.

There are many different types of professional organizations that can aid you in your networking goals! Almost every career has a professional organization or society that is open for membership for people in that field. For example, The Financial Planning Association (FPA) has chapters across the country and provides Financial Planners, Certified Public Accountants and students with access to articles, trainings, study groups, and leadership opportunities.

Networking Tips

There are also other organizations that offer great networking opportunities, but are not focused on a specific profession. For example, Toastmasters International is a long-standing organization designed to help all types of professionals improve their public speaking and communication skills. Many well-known professionals have been members of Toastmasters so just imagine the possibilities! An organization like this will give you the chance to meet a diverse group of people, the ability to better communicate, and the opportunity to work as part of a group. All of these will help you as you move forward in your new career!

Clubs are also a great way to meet people with similar interests and network with a variety of people! For example, if you are Italian-American and join your local Italian-American Club, you will have the opportunity to meet other people with a similar ethnic background, but a wide variety of professional experiences. Clubs also offer the chance to practice leadership and administrative skills as many will have officer positions and committees that you can be a part of.

As you begin to network and look for opportunities, look to professional organizations and clubs to help you meet your peers, practice your leadership, and access resources. Find an organization that is right for you and get involved!
